Investing.com – Japan stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Transportation Equipment, Fishery and Food sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 fell 1.31%.

The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Taisei Corp. (TYO:1801), which rose 2.29% or 117.00 points to trade at 5,233.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Subaru Corp (TYO:7270) added 2.01% or 51.50 points to end at 2,609.50 and JFE Holdings, Inc. (TYO:5411) was up 1.75% or 36.00 points to 2,089.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Advantest Corp. (TYO:6857), which fell 4.18% or 915.00 points to trade at 20,990.00 at the close. Terumo Corp. (TYO:4543) declined 3.01% or 134.00 points to end at 4,321.00 and Yaskawa Electric Corp. (TYO:6506) was down 2.90% or 185.00 points to 6,190.00.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2224 to 1350 and 272 ended unchanged.

Shares in Taisei Corp. (TYO:1801) rose to 3-years highs; rising 2.29% or 117.00 to 5,233.00. Shares in JFE Holdings, Inc. (TYO:5411) rose to 3-years highs; up 1.75% or 36.00 to 2,089.00.

The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 2.70% to 19.82.

Crude oil for September delivery was up 0.17% or 0.13 to $75.42 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in September rose 0.19% or 0.15 to hit $79.61 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract rose 0.14% or 2.70 to trade at $1,983.10 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was down 0.21% to 139.38, while EUR/JPY fell 0.09% to 156.34.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.11% at 99.88.
